Title: Shop Foreperson - Afternoon Shift

Location: Dartmouth

Reporting to: District Equipment Manager

Shift: Monday to Thursday - 2:00pm to 12:00am
Friday - 2:00pm to 6:00pm, with occasional Saturdays

Pay Rate: $42.07 per hour ($36.87 base + $2.12 shift premium + $3.08 foreperson premium)

Miller has over 50 years' experience in the waste management sector, and currently operates out of more than 30 locations. We are looking for a highly capable Shop Foreperson - Afternoon Shift to be located out of our Dartmouth location in Nova Scotia.

Miller Waste Systems is looking for a Shop Foreman - Afternoon Shift with 8+ years of experience in the heavy truck/transportation repair industry and with 3+ years of foreman/supervisory experience. A collaborative but strong nature is essential, and the applicant's background in heavy truck maintenance and repair in the transportation industry will allow them to succeed and grow within Miller Waste.

Responsibilities:
In the position of Shop Foreperson, your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Must adhere to Miller Waste System safety protocols and must be familiar with occupational Health & Safety Act.
• Manage the day-to-day operation of the shop.
• Supervise all shop staff; through mentoring, coaching and accountability, provide leadership to all shop staff to instill a sense of ownership and career satisfaction.
• Ensure that all work is performed safely, cost effectively and in a timely manner.
• Minimize equipment downtime.
• Ensure that all shop personnel, equipment, vehicles, and work areas are in compliance with all safety policies and regulations at all times.
• Develop, implement, and maintain processes, procedures, and programs to improve safety, productivity, and cost savings for the site.
• Ensure that the shop and surrounding grounds are clean and organized at all times.
• Liaise with Operations Supervisors and drivers in a professional and team-oriented manner.
• Maintain all equipment records and files.
• May be required to (in a limited capacity) fill in for the District Equipment Manager when necessary.
• Ensure that fleet software is properly and fully utilized.

Requirements:
The successful applicant will be comfortable with prioritization, planning, coordination, and organization, with an ability to respond and adapt in changing, high pressure environments. This individual will be able to assess problem situations, recognize issues, and use judgment to create solutions that meet required standards.
• Must possess and keep valid their applicable licenses including a valid Truck & Transport Mechanic Red Seal and a minimum Class 5, valid driver's license.
• Previous supervising experience

• Willingness to take on new challenges and grow with experience.
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot faults.
• Computer knowledge and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Available to work late when trucks are behind schedule, and work weekends and holidays as well as be flexible with the hours of work.
Flexibility is also required as this position occasionally requires travel, early starts, late finishes and, on rare occasions, weekend work.
